REDEFINING & REBUILDING

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:19-21

I am writing this for those of you who are facing a financial crisis and foreclosure. From the bottom of my heart please know that we do understand and care about you, whoever you are and wherever you are. We are you and we know what it is to have your life dismantled; and to face this devastating process while entering into what was to be our retirement years.

As I write this blog I still sit in our home, looking around at all of our personal belongings which will be sold in a couple of weeks. I can see Duke lying over by his favorite window sill waiting for the cat to wonder by. Pretty soon Duke may be gone to a new home. My heart is being ripped out at the thought of losing him, and not feeling his cold nose nudge us in the morning when he's ready to start his day.

The most important encouragement that I can give you is that God loves you and He is faithful in the midst of your pain. The pain we feel is real and those who haven't experienced foreclosure will never truly understand. But there are those of us who do. Do not succumb to your emotions, your life isn't over; it is simply in the process of being redefined and redesigned as with many of us.

Please do not despair. You are probably battling feelings of hopelessness and anger. You may have lived in your home for just a few years or perhaps what seems like your entire life; building a life, marriage and raising children, only to helplessly watch it all being swept away through the cold and insensitive process of foreclosure, where strangers, perhaps even the age of your own children are making decisions that will forever change your life.

If you're like us you've been sending letters pleading with your mortgage company and perhaps the foreclosure law firm representative. The foreclosure lawyer assigned to our file was only admitted to the Texas State Bar in 2005, making him about the same age as my middle daughter. I've often wonder how he would feel about his Dad having to beg someone his age to save his home? How would Ryan B. feel about another young lawyer putting his parents out on the streets. I suspect that the same law degree used to help put us out on the streets would voraciously intervene on behalf of his own family members.

Thousands of Americans just like you and us have written letters, sent emails, faxed and made those painful phone calls to our mortgage companies; being tossed to and fro through the 800 toll free abyss of robotic representatives who don't care. We fought and we fought hard, and now it's time to stop; all avenues of remedy have been exhausted and so are we. In our case, the evil wasn't just the foreclosure, but the underlying real estate/mortgage fraud that still goes unpunished; a guilty jury verdict void of consequences.

We finally have come to the end only to find that the fighting is not the hardest part of our battle; its the letting go and walking away. The tearful nights of looking around at a life that is rapidly approaching end. The date is set, the bad guys won and the unknown is frightening; especially for those of us who are approaching or already entered the retirement years.

If you are feeling despair I want you to know that your life is NOT over, it's just being redefined. You were not born a house, pictures hanging on a wall, flooring, ceramic counters, appliances, or even an address hanging on a front porch or a mail box. You were born a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made; and this is an opportunity for you to re-prioritize your life; searching out the treasure found in those gifts and the special calling on your life which no bank can ever foreclose on.

You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them
."
Psalm 139:13-16
"The word of the Lord came to [Jeremiah], saying:
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;
Before you were born I sanctified you."
Jeremiah 1:4-5

We care about you and want you to know that we are here to help you as God leads in the transition into a new season of your life through prayer, or the providing of any information that we can to help. You can contact us anonymously at our email with a prayer request. If we're out flipping burgers or collecting cans somewhere we will get back to you as soon as possible. We aren't ignoring you.

Again, you are NOT alone! Look at the statistics, Americans everywhere are hurting as a result of the economic crisis that has hit our country, and the fact that we are a country that lives in excess from the government level down to the single family dwelling. Those of us living through foreclosure have an insight that can serve to be a valuable force in the redefining of who we are and how we live!
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 5:19-21
